# *Vivek* - Spiritual ability to Discriminate§

A year ago, my strategy for navigating life was straightforward:

If a tradition or a religious practice existed, I followed it simply because it was present. If society provided a standard path regarding education, work and social milestones, I complied without examining them. During that period, my daily routine operated on autopilot. My mind remained passive and I accepted that state of indifference.

At the time, that lack of engagement felt comfortable. However, looking back over the past year, I now recognize that my attitude was merely ignorant. It was simply a reluctance to engage - like eating sand because someone put it on a plate; it fills the space, but it is not food.

## The Trap of Apathy§

For a long time, I convinced myself that caring about nothing was a sensible stance. But treating a human life as something to pass through without deliberate intent means ignoring the actual mechanics of personal responsibility and contribution.

Jain philosophy defines this condition as *Aviveka* - the fundamental lack of discernment between what truly benefits the inner self and what constitutes "nothing". My past indifference was a clear example of Aviveka. I did not care about my spiritual roots, my cultural obligations or my traditional background and I remained indifferent to that very neglect. It is simply a refusal to participate meaningfully in life.

## The Software Update§

Over the course of last year, my perspective has slightly shifted.

My view of the social order has changed. Now I believe *Viveka* - spiritual discrimination - is necessary and I cannot and should not remain indifferent.

Developing *Viveka* does not mean I need to attempt to achieve something great or release a new frontier AI model. It simply means recognizing the value of conscious effort. It is about upgrading my mindset just enough to stop the habit of not caring about what goes on around me.

The difference today is that I have accumulated some internal motivation to understand my roots, my philosophy and my responsibilities, with a quiet desire to live deliberately rather than simply letting time pass by default.
